So your Unzipped managing editor was going through his Google Reader last night and came across the Flickr page of an artist named Narusnarus, where this simple drawing of a man holding a towel and wearing half of a pair of pantyhose(?) caught his attention. Nearly fifteen years after his death, Leigh Bowery’s influence on fashion is visible everywhere: from designer Garth Pugh to stylist Brett Bailey. Even Thom Browne’s much buzzed-about spring collection (featuring Seano) is a nod to the performance artist's fondness for polka dots and cranial distorting head gear.
Photographer Richard Burbridge continues the Bowery hat-tipping with his editorial shoot for the October issue of Dazed & Confused. In addition to the fantastical creations, we love the idea of peeling away the layers of decorations from the models, which seems a bit like unwrapping a birthday gift. And isn’t the unwrapping process always half of the fun?
