A: Men Of Color Blog will never be satisfied.
Victor Hoff of MOC Blog has written exhaustively on the lack of African-American models on sites like Randy Blue, Corbin Fisher, Jake Cruise, and Sean Cody, but his latest blog post is just beyond:
I got to wondering how many black and biracial men - exactly - has Randy Blue actually shot? So I counted. According to his site, the webmaster has featured 39 models...since his inception in, I believe, 2003. Now we can wrestle in a vat of doughy cookie batter until the chips melt about whether that's a "good" number or not. But what interested me was the chronological story. Of the 39 black models Randy Blue has had on his site, 29 appeared in the first two years and a whopping 26 appeared his first year running! In fact, in 2005 there was only one black performer, Jay, two in 2006, Dominic and Joelle, three in 2007 and only two in 2008. So far this year, three black models have appeared. So the question became: What happened??
There are so many jokes to make here, about this affirmative actionization of gay porn on the Internet! But, I will wait and let MOC Blog's Victor Hoff finish. What? You thought he was finished? Oh, he is NOT finished:
Why, after a groundbreaking start did [Randy Blue] seemingly purposefully weed black models out? I mean did all the hot, available black men in the Los Angeles area evaporate? Weirder still, Sean Cody laid the groundwork for this business model by doing the same thing only first. He has a number of black and Latin men on his site but only - with a rare exception or two - early on. Why? I have pondered this for years and the only plausible explanation I can come up with - though not by any means the final word - is that it would recuse most of them, the Seans, Jakes, and Corbins of the world, of the charge of racism by featuring men of color only early on or, more accurately, only periodically.
Of course. It was all planned!
After all, it was a business decision. "They weren't making us money." "The market doesn't want it." (The 'they' and 'it' here being men of color.) They knew their bread and butter was a bunch of white people that are perfectly content never having to see any other sexual color but white again.
Wait, white is a "sexual color"?
Ha ha, no, but seriously. Just think about what it means for someone to count up the black guys on a gay porn site and categorize them by the years in which they've appeared. Then, think about what it means for someone to first accuse the owner of this site of being a racist because he only hired 39 black guys, then backpedal and say he is not so much a racist racist but more like a businessman racist—because "after all" it is the white, racist subscribers to this site who hate black people so much they simply will not pay to watch them have sex—whose Grand Scheme from the beginning of his business venture was to front load his gay porn site with a "whopping" amount of black gay porn models (not to mention a disproportionate amount, considering the ratio of black to white gay porn models on his site dwarfs the ratio of black to white Americans from U.S. Census figures!) in a calculated, premeditated attempt to trick people like MOC Blog's Victor Hoff into believing he was not a racist. Think about what it means for someone to think this way.
Then, think about what it means for someone to bookend this entire thought process by talking about how much they would like to interview a man right before and right after they call him a racist:
...About the only thing I don't like about Randy Blue is his refusal to grant me an interview
...I guess Randy Blue now knows one question I'll certainly be asking him. If I ever get that damn interview.

well i think his blog is a bit much, but his point is an interesting one, why aren't there more black models working fore these sites? and why is there such a decline in african american models the longer the site has been around? those points seems valid even if the rest of the blog is a bit crazy.

Actually there is a serious issue here and unfortunately it will not be rectified to my satisfaction or Victor.
It is the Customers fault!
Now before anyone says that's a cop out let me tell you I have 1000 to 1200 UV's a day and I have a lot of email subs.
I KNOW by post and cancellations when I piss someone off.
And MY experience matches what many producers have said privately.
Non white models result in lower sales AND the most complaints.
Now complaints you might ignore,, sales not at all! Most porn producers are not altruistic! They spend the money on a model they Must convert! (Sales)
I am sure the dearth of color is their way of looking out for #1.
My Challenge as a Blogger is to be a general interest gay porn blog and I post,,
Twinks,Jocks,Hunks,White,Black,Latino and the rare Asian.
This is just me it mirrors who I have dated in my personal life.
Still I get gripes and my attitude is I will post good looking men no matter what their ethnic background.
It is a challenge with the mainstream sites because of their lack of color.
If it were not for a few Corbin,Randy Blue and Chaosmen this past year I would have had very few. I have picked up some Latino sites and added FlavaWorks.
All Good quality I might add and full of sensual sexual men.
As for the customers/readers what can you do we all have our personal taste and the one place you can not be politically correct is the bedroom!
I see no easy answers at all.
But I RESPECT Victor Hoff for continuing to raise the issue for all of us who get off to Men of Color!

I am African American male and I noticed it myself. I just tried the site recently and I just thought it was a business decision. What does the market want? If you go over to the aebn porn web site, you find much more diversity.

Just for the record? I never called Randy Blue or his site racist. I thought I raised a valid point about the use and frequency of black models on sites like his. I'm sorry you felt, Zach, that instead of a reasonable discussion on a very serious subject you felt ad hominem attacks on my character were the way to go.

I am sorry , but why is it that people of color cling to racism as if it were the in thing ? This is the 21st century, and a lot has changed, yet the only people who still consider anything that doesn't cater to them as racist are black people. Do you ever think some white people might be offended to be called racist? I know I am because I am not racist, but I get sick and tired of people like Kanye West and this idiot who posted this blog who think everything revolves around one race. If you want equality practice what you fucking preach. Kudos to these sites for filming what suits them and fuck the people who try to make every single thing into a race issue get some help you fool!

Victor's point was very valid which is why I commented on it. I wouldn't take the time to comment otherwise. With that said, the only reason I am commenting here is to call you on your incompetence at reporting by kissing Randy Blue and every other racist studio's ass. Because if you don't kiss their asses, your magazine will be in worst shape than it already is.
Now, I noticed the last debate I had with Zach, I brought up the state of your magazine, and it was the one point of mine that was never addressed in his reply. Dodging the truth AGAIN, are we?
So try being truthful in answering this:
How much did Randy Blue and the other studios pay you to write this rubbish to help them dodge dealing with this matter? I mean after all, you attempt to be such experts at it, I'm sure they felt you were competent enough to accomplish it. BUT the majority of comments here show otherwise.
So DON'T answer that question for me, answer it for yourself, because you have to live with yourself for trying to sweep the issue of racism in gay porn under the rug AGAIN.

When it comes to me I have a type but it is a body type and that body type encompasses all races. So I don’t really look at a guy for his ethnic make up and I do tend to like men of all colors. What is really interesting is that a red head with translucent white skin can be just as sexy to me a guy who is midnight black. One of the real issues I have with porn is that it does not reflect my taste in men, which is wide ranging. Gay porn is very segregated. It’s either twink or jock or muscle daddies and they rarely mix it up. Most of the porn with men of color is thug porn, which I happen to find a bit offensive. Not all men of color are thugs just like all white boys are not frat jocks. The gay porn industry has always been segmented this way. Like some of the other commentaries have said it is because that is where the money is. I have no real issue with the companies doing what is profitable for them. And seriously if you have an issue with the lack of non-whites in mainstream porn quit bitching and start your own company and hire models that are more diverse.
There is also another issue with models of color working porn. In general there are not that many who are willing to get naked and fuck on film. There is still a serious problem that men of color have to deal with and that is self-image. Now I know that allot of it is deep routed in society and we have yet to break free of its constraints but things are changing. The other problem is the negative stigma that surrounds gay men in minority communities. Me being a black man, who came out in the early 80’s, I was a witness to the negative stereo types that effected men of color. I was lucky enough to have a family who loved me for who I was not what I was and my being gay was never a real issue. But I am the exception to the rule.
I remember going to bars and the white guys did not need two pieces of Id to get in but I did. I remember being asked to do a porn movie and I declined because I did not want the stigma that came from doing porn. I also did not want to embarrass my family either. Mind you this was the 80’s but that stigma still exists. It is hard enough to get a job being Gay and black, then you add the stigma of doing gay porn to it and you are pretty much screwed. Now I have plenty of friends who did porn and some where black. The black ones always had more issues with getting jobs in porn and getting jobs out side of porn as well. So you see its a double edged sword you are damned if you do because there are fewer opportunities for you in gay porn and if you do porn you are damned in the general market place for a job because you did porn.
So the way I see it there is still an issue for gay men of color not so much an issue race as an issue of money. Money has always been a way to level the playing field and if porn with men of color made the same money as “mainstream” gay porn you would see companies actively recruiting models of color. But that is not happening and models of color are not lining up to do gay porn. So I really think of it as more of a none issue. The gay population is basically 10% of the general population of 350million and when you break that down the minority portion of that 10% is even smaller 35 million. Hispanics accounting for (15 percent) Blacks comprise the second-largest minority group (13.5 percent), followed by Asians, with (5 percent).
So you are looking at around 33.5% of the gay population is a minority half of them are woman so that would explain why you have so few minorities in gay porn.

While I like guys of all races I have a pretty majot interest in black men. I was a member of Randy Blue for years and recently cancelled because of the lack of black men. It's interesting to see this blog since I recently had the same thoughts.

Tre, it's funny that you characterize your one-sided inanity and irrelevant thoughts as a "debate." (Funny because it's not.) It's also funny that you call Randy Blue a, um, "racist." (Funny because he's not.) And lastly, it's funny that you've called yourself a porn star. (Funny because you're NOT.) so STFU pls thx

Men are Men to me, all colors are welcome. Everything though seems to have to be filled with so much drama.

No efforts on improvement will ever be acknowledged by MOC or his partner in crime Tre Xavier.
Posted by: Ricardo | October 21, 2009 at 04:43 PM
Tre Xavier will never SFTU. Tre does not debate. He only states his opinion. If you don't agree with his opinion then your are either, "ignorant", "uneducated", or employed by the opposition.
Trey has made a career out of flame throwing. Now, only if he could find a way to get paid for his profession.
Posted by: Tyson | October 21, 2009 at 05:14 PM
Regarding Tyson's response:
WHAT IS THERE TO DISCUSS. Tre has been in the business, has experienced the discrimination firsthand. He nevers asks anyone to agree with his opinions because as americans, we are free to express them, and for that matter, he doesn't need me to speak for him.
I will say, he has grounds to voice his opinion about the stereotyping, racist behavior that goes on in the gay porn industry. MOC blog/Tre's opinion are just that, their means/ways to voice their feelings about the industry and it's F**KED up with their blatant discriminatory practices. I'm glad someone is sticking up for MOC.
Call it flame throwing, call it lack of professionalism, but he's stating the truth, plain and simple.

RACE CARD, you pulled it.
BULLSHIT CARD, i'm pulling it.
keep in mind the statistical population of the United States. black people constitute a minority of 12-15%. what you are asking, is for other people to be attracted to your race? are you fucking kidding me? if the majority of our population was black, or mexican, non-white, etc. the pornography would lean heavily towards non-white performers.
look at black-owned studios, count the white performers in their videos.
the difference here, is that in europe, a minority won't bitch and squeal about it, because they understand. but you (Victor) don't feel like the brotherman is getting a fair slice? i can pitch the same inane argument about Mexicans in basketball. or Asians in football. but just like your argument, it's full of holes and isn't even logical.
Posted by: Chong Li | October 21, 2009 at 06:53 PM
Jake,
Your hot mess isn't even related to what is going on here, but I guess you had to speak your mind to us "uppity coloreds." At least be honest. Victor did not call Randy Blue racist and pulling the West card is laughable. Really!

Can't we just watch them fuck and be happy? really...

I just have one thing to say about this argument. FOLLOW THE MONEY! It is a matter of pure and simple finances, only! NJMJr!

Oh my god how stupid,
Some people like black men, some like white, some like bears, some leather, some fist up the ass, some not so much.
These site chose to focus on the a certain image.
Do not like it do not join the site
Grow up and get over it. None of you were owned we have bigger issues to deal with then not enough black dick on a couple of sites.
I remind you there is tons of black only sites, why is no one bitching about no white people there?
Posted by: Coop | October 22, 2009 at 08:36 AM
I am guessing that if I went to the MOC site and calculated up the number of non-men-of-color represented, and if I found that the numbers do not match the general population of the world, then that site could be considered rascist.
Posted by: Albert | October 22, 2009 at 09:35 AM
Orlando, Victor Hoff took an example of inclusion on Randy Blue's site and turned it into a negative. His lackey, Xavier jumps in and pisses gasoline on Hoff's juvenile logic. While there probably is little argument about the need for more color in porn, the reality is NO ONE wanted Tre Xavier. And this has become personal for Trey and his boss Victor Hoff.
They don't want Tre for anything. Not for porn, go go dancing, guest appearances, hosting gigs, or to invest with him as a business partner. Trey wanted to be in the porn world but could never achieve anything other than D List status. Hot House, Titan, Lucas Entertainment,Raging Stallion, Ray Dragon all regularly feature ethnic cast members. Anyone who has chosen not to hire or work with Tre Xavier is labled a racist.

@coop: Historically, blacks and other minorities have been forced to create their own opportunities - in music, in the movies, on television, etc. because they have been systematically denied opportunites in most mediums, at least in the beginning. Porn is no different. The history of the gay adult entertainment industry is just one more long, sad example of this. One need only look at most of the major gay porn studios to confirm this. (One notable exception is Channel 1 Releasing.) But because any discussion of this - any attempt to ask any serious questions about racism in gay porn, whether actual or perceived - quickly devolves in emotional name-calling and ad hominem attacks on people's character, the issue is quickly swept under the carpet. We're told, as you blithely wrote, to "grow up and get over it." Or people resort to the rather specious argument about black sites not having white models on it. So I ask you: what is this type, this image you vaguely refer to? The "boy-next-door?" The "amateur straight boy?" "The all-American boy?" All these labels are meaningless and, for many, offensive. Are these sites suggesting that only white men are "all-American" or that there are no black "boys-next-door?" I'd have a lot more respect for Sean Cody and his ilk if they billed their sites as "The Home of the Hot White Boy" because ultimately that's the "image" they are cultivating and the one you yourself are referring to but appear to not want to name. (Although, as I've said REPEATEDLY, Randy Blue does a better job than most of incorporating men of various colors and skin tones. And for that they deserve props.) Get over it? I didn't know I had anything to get over, Coop.

Victor Hoff...what the fuck! This is why you have NO credibility. ZERO. You site Channel 1 Releasing as an example of including men of color in their products? WIGGA PLEASE!!!
Channel 1 Releasing has produced, by now, 1000's of gay movies. Of those 1000's, men of color are almost exclusively featured in ethnic themed (i.e., Black Balled, White "this"/Black "that", or other black and Latin themed films.) C1R absolutely does NOT regularly cast men of color in non ethnic themed movies.
I'm not one that easily throws the race card, but I do know my facts. C1R and All World Video is tightly controlled by Chi Chi LaRue. LaRue is unfortunately one of the most influential and powerful people in porn. Like some of the other larger studios, (Lucas, Titan, Hot House), La Rue could cast men of color to fill ANY roll. But C1R only casts men of color, primarily black men, in stereotypical roles????!!!! And, you give the Channel 1 Releasing as pass? What the fuck for?
