Dear Dick,

My boyfriend loves to have his ass eaten. It’s not a demand so much as a wish. He also loves me and knows that I can’t really bring myself to put my tongue down there, so he doesn’t bug me too much about it. The problem is, I really want to please him sexually in as many ways as I can. I don’t want to be selfish. I tried rimming him once. He’s exceptionally clean, so the usual stuff you might think would be an issue isn’t. But when I got down there and started doing it, I just kept thinking that it’s inherently dirty to put your tongue on someone’s ass hole. It is, right? Or am I being too prissy?

Dear Dick understands your reticence. He’s not a big fan of rimming in his own life, for similar reasons. But the fact remains that people—gay, straight, and in-between—have been licking each other’s butt holes since time began. It’s not like the gays invented it. If the person who wants to receive the oral-anal contact is scrupulously clean, there’s little chance of smell or, well, you know, anything else disrupting the act. You won’t really expose yourself to parasites or bacteria if you’re not tonguing the person up inside the rectum—look, it happens, and if you’re doing that you’re playing with a loaded gun, so to speak—so if you can get over the mental hurdle, you’re good to go. And that mental hurdle will really be the biggest obstacle to your, and his, enjoyment. If you can’t get over it then at least your boyfriend still loves you. No relationship is 100% in sync; no one ever gets to be everything their partner wants sexually. That’s just a fact. Are you open to letting someone else do it for him? Maybe you have a good friend who’s really into eating ass? Maybe you can farm out your boyfriend to that person. If you have enough gay friends in your life, you’ve probably got at least one guy like that in your circle. Find out who it is and tell him that your man’s ass is his to munch.
