The Mayor of the American city of Portland has apologized for lying about a relationship he had in 2005 with an 18-year-old. Sam Adams, 45, will leave the Inauguration ceremonies in Washington, D.C., later today to return to the city to apologize to citizens for his dishonesty.

Both Mayor Adams and the teenager, Beau Breedlove, had lied about their relationship for 18 months before Oregon alternative weekly newspaper Williamette Week broke the story. They met in 2005 when Mr Breedlove was 17 but claimed they had a platonic friendship. At a meeting with reporters last week, the Mayor was presented with evidence of a sexual relationship, but again denied it.

Yesterday he told the Williamette Week that their relationship became sexual after Mr Breedlove turned 18 and continued for two months in the summer of 2005.

First of all: Obama, a secret Muslim, invited a gay pedophile to his Inauguration? Figures. What would Rick Warren have to say about this, hmm?

“The past day of news coverage regarding my brief 2005 relationship with Mayor Sam Adams has been stressful, to say the least. I would like to publicly apologize to those who were negatively affected by my mishandling of the situation during the 2007 mayoral campaign.

Reflecting back, I regret misleading anyone about the nature of the relationship. When the subject first surfaced during the campaign, I was living out of state and I did not anticipate the impact it might have on Portland’s mayoral campaign. While my first instinct was to tell the truth, I also wanted to protect Sam Adams' reputation, considering our valuable friendship.

Sam Adams has always been a positive influence and a friend to me. He has many outstanding qualities to bring to his position as mayor of the city of Portland, and I wish nothing but the best for him. I hope this subject can ultimately be put to rest, and I sincerely believe in Sam Adams and what he can do for the city of Portland as mayor.

Again, I truly apologize to those were affected by my mishandling of the situation in 2007.

Um, stalking this guy on MySpace wasn't exactly a challenge--a Google search on his name produces his page as the first result.

The problem with the relationship is that, when it started, Breedlove was an intern in the Mayor's office. It's an abuse-of-power scandal, no different than Clinton-Lewinsky. I don't think it's necessarily worthy of Adams' resignation, but it is certainly dumb on his part.

As for Breedlove...hot? Frankly, I think the boy needs to eat a sandwich, but then again, I was never into the "escaped from Auschwitz" look.

Okay, so I am just incredibly jealous of Mayor Adams. It irritates me when the old double-standard comes into play. Think how "awesome-dude" everyone would consider Mr. Breedlove had the Mayor been a woman. Imagine the enhanced image of "viral-manhood" the Mayor would be enjoying had the 18 year-old been female.
